The first No Time To Spare photographic exhibition was staged by the National Trust in 1961. It came about because of concern for the number of important buildings in Sydney that were being demolished and consisted of 34 photographs by acclaimed photographer Max Dupain.
Then in 2021 The Trust invited 18 photographers to contribute to an exhibition held at Sydney’s Observatory to commemorate the Diamond Anniversary of the Dupain exhibition. Southern Highlands photographer RICHARD BATTERLEY was among those photographers and his exhibited work was a black and white image of Berrima Gaol.
It was decided the important message about our at-risk heritage should be taken beyond Sydney and so plans were put in place to take the exhibition to the rural regions of New South Wales with the addition of “local content”. The first regional venue selected for the tour is THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS.
Richard Batterley was the Principal Photographer for this exhibition, providing 24 of the 28 photographs.
